December 20 Is the Security Agency Worker's Day in Russia
On, December 20 Russia traditionally celebrates Security Agency Worker's Day. It is a professional holiday for employees of the Federal Security Service, Foreign Intelligence Service and Federal Guard Service.
The history of the holiday dates back to the 19th century. In 1881, a special department was created to protect the first persons of the state, and in 1917, the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission was formed to protect the national interests of the country.
At present, employees of the FSB, SVR and FSO successfully perform the tasks aimed at protecting national interests of Russia, the security of citizens, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.
As you may recall, security bodies' employees are members of the Expert Advisory Board under the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and participate in the development and discussion of draft model legislative acts and recommendations.
