On June 28, 2019, the Parliamentary Centre in St Petersburg (53 Shpalernaya Street) hosted parliamentary hearings The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy in Addressing Topical Issues on the International Agenda, organized by the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia.
Anatoly Vyborny, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Committee on Defence and Security and a member of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Committee on Security and Corruption Control, told the attendees that such events are proposed to be held on a regular basis in order to improve the approbation of the draft model acts developed by the CSTO PA and identify promising areas of legislative work.
The event focused on the development of measures and ways for the parliamentary community to counteract the challenges and threats in the field of international security, as well as ensuring continuous parliamentary interaction in the field of foreign policy and security.
In particular, the parliamentarians and experts participating in the parliamentary hearings discussed the role of inter-parliamentary structures in the formation of approaches to ensure information and technology security, parliamentary diplomacy in the context of modern European policy and foreign relations amid the erosion of strategic stability.
The event was attended by parliamentarians and representatives from the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry, leading political analysts and experts from international organizations: UN, IPA CIS, CSTO and the Union State of Belarus and Russia
