Ararat Mirzoyan: relations between Russia and Armenia “are those of strategic partners and allies”
Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, met with Ararat Mirzoyan, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the press service of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin and Ararat Mirzoyan discussed bilateral relations between Russia and Armenia, as well as the situation with Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Our inter-parliamentary relations are developing. We know well each other personally, but also we know the colleagues who come with you. It is a testament to commitment to discussing the issues that arise sometimes and that we need to address,” Vyacheslav Volodin said to Ararat Mirzoyan, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the parties actively promote the dialogue.
“It is clear that the pandemic is taking its toll. Now it is gradually receding into the background. Therefore, in the near future, I hope to meet in the framework of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, to be held on July 1,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
The issue of Nagorno-Karabakh was raised at the meeting. Both sides noted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s contribution to the settlement of the conflict.
“Our President has done a lot to stop this conflict that could have turned into something terrible,” Vyacheslav Volodin stressed.
For his part, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that Armenia and Russia have a special, fraternal centuries-long relationship. “It is a relationship of strategic partners and allies,” he said.
“I am sure no one doubts that these relations will further develop dynamically and grow stronger,” Mr Mirzoyan said.
