Emomali Rahmon: Terrorists have no nationality and must be eliminated
We must create a ‘security belt’ around Afghanistan,” said Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, at an extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan called for increased activity by international terrorist groups in Afghanistan to be taken very seriously. “Overall, according to our special services, the number of camps and terrorist training centres on the southern borders of the CSTO in the north-eastern provinces of Afghanistan is more than 40, and the number of fighters exceeds six thousand,” stressed the President of the Republic of Tajikistan. Emomali Rahmon recalled that he had repeatedly drawn attention to “the existence in our countries of sleeper cells of international terrorism, extremism and religious radicalism.”
“I believe that terrorists have no homeland, no religion, no nationality, they must be destroyed wherever they are,” stressed Emomali Rahmon.
“Our countries need to establish more effective coordination between special services in the fight against transnational organized crime, including in cyberspace. Within the CIS, I have already proposed developing a system to protect information space. I believe that this initiative is relevant and timely for the CSTO.
At the same time, we consider it important to continue work to identify and suppress channels of movement of our citizens to regions with heightened terrorist activity. This also applies to the channels of entry and return to the CSTO area of responsibility of persons involved in terrorism and extremism.”
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan expressed his full support for the efforts of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish law and order in the country. “We are convinced that brotherly Kazakhstan has all the strength and means to do so, and its wise people will be able to achieve complete stabilization of the situation in the shortest possible time,” noted Emomali Rahmon.
