“Parliaments of the CSTO Member States actively cooperate on a wide range of issues of the Organization’s activity,” said Erlan Koshanov. This, in his opinion, "first of all provides the legislative basis to counteract modern challenges and threats.”
Noting that countering terrorism that threatens security and stability continues to be high on parliamentarians’ agenda, Erlan Koshanov emphasized the importance of model legislation as a tool for countering this and other threats.
“We need to provide a high-quality foundation for model lawmaking, forming specific legal mechanisms to counter these challenges. In this regard, Kazakhstan is ready to develop a model CSTO law on countering terrorism. I am sure that the development of this model legal act will be a practical contribution by our Assembly,” Erlan Koshanov emphasized. The Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan emphasized that Kazakhstan sees the CSTO as a key mechanism for ensuring regional security.
As you may recall, at the plenary session on December 5, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted Recommendations on the Improvement of the CSTO Member States’ national legislation on Closing Channels of International Terrorism, Recommendations on Combating Terrorism at Fuel and Energy Complex Facilities and Recommendations on the Improvement of Methodological Bases for the Improvement and Preparation for Approving CSTO Model Acts.
