Yerlan Koshanov Thanked CSTO Parliamentarians for Monitoring the Referendum in Kazakhstan
On April 20, Moscow is hosting a regular session of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan is headed by Yerlan Koshanov, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In his speech, Yerlan Koshanov emphasized that "in today’s turbulent world, parliamentary diplomacy is becoming an important unifying mechanism for peace and universal prosperity."
"This year marks the 20th anniversary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. Over the past two decades, the Parliamentary Assembly has indeed become an important element of the CSTO collective security system, ensuring effective parliamentary cooperation between Member States. One of the key areas of its work is the approximation and harmonization of the national legislations. This covers a wide range of legal areas — from military cooperation and collective security to countering terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and transnational crime,” Yerlan Koshanov noted.
He emphasized that the Parliamentary Assembly makes a significant contribution to improving the legal framework of the CSTO Member States.
"Amid growing instability in international security, the emergence of new hybrid threats and the escalation of destructive activities, the harmonization of our countries' legal systems takes on a special, strategic significance," the Chairman of the Mazhilis stressed.
He noted that the Parliament of Kazakhstan is ready to continue "active, closely coordinated work with partners, aimed at developing legal framework for the CSTO cooperation."
In addition, Yerlan Koshanov thanked CSTO parliamentarians for monitoring the referendum in Kazakhstan on the adoption of the country's new Constitution.
