On May 18, a meeting was held in Vienna between CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov and OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues of the international agenda, focusing on the security situation in Eurasia.
They paid special attention to the role of regional organizations in ensuring sustainable political dialogue and making balanced decisions on security and cooperation. They stressed the importance of sustainable contacts between regional organizations in the interest of strengthening international peace and security, following the provisions of Article 52 of Chapter VIII ("Regional Agreements") of the UN Charter.
Exchanging views on the situation in areas of mutual interest, the parties agreed that conflicts should be resolved by peaceful means through a negotiation process.
Regarding the Central Asian region, the parties underlined that continuously monitoring the impact of the "Afghan factor" on achieving sustainable peace and security in the region is very important. In this regard, the CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov noted the active use of the capabilities of the Working Group on Afghanistan under the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, which includes on a permanent basis specialized bodies of the UN, the CIS and the SCO.
