CSTO Secretary General and parliamentarians discussed the Organization’s tasks
At the meeting between Stanislav Zas, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and participants of the first meeting of chairpersons of the foreign relations committees (commissions) of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States, the parties discussed the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and exchanged views on ways of developing the Organization and strengthening its peacekeeping component based on the experience of deploying the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the Republic of Kazakhstan in early January 2022.
“The operation in Kazakhstan has shown that the level of training of peacekeepers is high. We will continue to train our contingent. At the same time, we prioritize political and diplomatic methods of work,” said the CSTO Secretary General.
Parliamentarians’ tasks of legislative support of the development of the Organization and its parliamentary component were also discussed.
“The international security system is deteriorating. Tensions are rising. In this difficult situation, the CSTO has managed to control the situation,” stressed the CSTO Secretary General. Nevertheless, the CSTO has not reduced its diplomatic efforts. “We intend to develop our relations with international organizations, first of all with the United Nations through fighting terrorism,” noted the CSTO Secretary General, stressing also the good working contacts established with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
