CSTO Secretary General and Kazakh Foreign Minister discussed candidates for observers and partners to the Organization
On March 10 of this year, in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zas met with Mukhtar Tleuberdi, deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the press service of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the parties discussed the military and political situation in the Central Asian region of collective security and execution of the Action Plan on the Implementation of the Decisions of the CSC Session of December 2, 2020 and the priorities proposed by the Tajik side for the duration of Tajikistan’s presidency in the Organization in 2021.
Among the important issues discussed at the meeting by CSTO Secretary General and the head of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry were the implementation of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to establish a new office of the Special Representative of the CSTO Secretary General on Peacekeeping Issues with the rank of a deputy CSTO Secretary General, as well as to hold a meeting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in May.
Secretary General reported on the preparation of the draft Plan of Activities Dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the Signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th Anniversary of the CSTO (to be celebrated in May 2022), the document has been considered by the CSTO Standing Council and sent for national approval.
During the meeting, Mukhtar Tleuberdi and Stanislav Zas also exchanged views on the list of potential candidates to receive the status of a CSTO Observer and Partner. In early April, deputy foreign ministers of CSTO Member States responsible for security issues in the Eurasian and Euro-Atlantic region are scheduled to meet to consult on this matter.
