Heads of the CSTO Member States spoke at the 25th meeting of the Council of the Heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States in Tianjin. Imangali Tasmagambetov, the CSTO Secretary General, also took part in the summit.
As a result of the summit, the SCO Development Strategy until 2035 and a package of other documents have been approved.
Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between the SCO countries. He held meetings with the leaders of Russia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.
"The SCO is becoming an integral part of the new international order." said Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus. He took extra time to commend the efforts to establish the SCO Multi-Purpose Centre for combating challenges and threats and the SCO Anti-Drug Centre.
"In the context of global unrest, unity and solidarity are our most important advantages. As Confucius said, 'When people are united, even the weak become strong; when they are divided, even the strong become weak,''' Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, pointed out that Kazakhstan's in favor of "further strengthening the 'Shanghai spirit', which has become the embodiment of international solidarity in the interests of global peace and security."
"Kazakhstan fully supports the key goals of the SCO: an equal multipolar world order, security and stability, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and recognition of their right to sovereign development,'' Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed.
Sadyr Japarov, President of Kyrgyzstan, said that the country will keep increasing collective efforts aimed at countering threats and challenges to the security of SCO Member States. Above all, he noted the importance of countering terrorism, separatism, and extremism. In this context, the head of the Kyrgyz Republic stated that the Centre for Combating Transnational Organized Crime in Bishkek, established at the initiative of Kyrgyzstan, will make a significant contribution to the common cause of combating the illegal work of international organized criminal groups in the SCO space.
Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, noted that dialogue within the SCO "helps lay the foundations for a new security system in Eurasia to replace Eurocentric and Euro-Atlantic models."
"Our organization is consistently increasing its influence in resolving pressing international issues and is a powerful driving force behind global development and the establishment of genuine multilateralism," Vladimir Putin emphasized.
Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the SCO Member States for supporting the decision of the Council to establish the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe.
Xi Jinping, President of China, said that the SCO countries should defend international justice and impartiality by promoting a multipolar world.
As you may recall, the SCO was founded in Shanghai on June 15, 2001. China assumed the rotating chairmanship of the Organization in July 2024 after the summit in Astana. The CSTO and the SCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding, on the basis of which the parties maintain regular contacts and carry out joint work on issues of regional and international security and stability.
The final declaration of the Tianjin summit states that the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will pass to Kyrgyzstan. The next meeting will be held in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2026.
In November 2014, the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) agreed on a course of strengthening cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
