Gurgen Arsenyan Appointed Armenian Ambassador to Russia
Gurgen Arsenyan has been appointed Armenia's new Ambassador to Russia. The corresponding decree was signed by Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of Armenia.
“Taking as a basis the Prime Minister's suggestion, in accordance with the Article 132, paragraph 2, part 1 of the Constitution, to appoint Gurgen Arsenyan as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation,” the decree reads.
Gurgen Arsenyan was a member of the Armenian Parliament from the ruling faction “Civil Contract”.
Earlier he told reporters that he hopes to “smooth the rough edges in the relations between Armenia and Russia”.
Former Ambassador Vagharshak Harutyunyan was appointed in January 2022. Prior to that, he served as Armenia's Defence Minister.
