Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: The deployment of peacekeepers has played a major role in terms of stabilizing the situation in Kazakhstan and also made it possible to recapture Almaty from terrorists
At a meeting of the operation staff in Almaty, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was informed that his decision to send additional forces to Almaty, including a CSTO peacekeeping contingent, saved the city and fought off terrorists, akorda.kz website reports.
Currently, active restoration of all areas of life in the city is underway.
“As you know, Almaty is my home city,” noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. “I was born and studied here. Now we are faced with the task of rebuilding this city in the shortest possible time. This, one might say, is a matter of honour for me as the President and as a citizen of our state. I have no doubt that the city will be restored,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan also announced the upcoming withdrawal of the CSTO joint peacekeeping contingent.
“Tomorrow begins the organized withdrawal of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent. I have had talks with heads of states. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the contingent commanders for the work they have done during these few days. The very presence of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent in Kazakhstan, including in Almaty, has played a major role in terms of stabilizing the situation in our country. Undoubtedly, it had a great psychological effect in repelling the aggression of terrorists and bandits. The mission is considered very successful. Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to my counterparts, heads of state,” said the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
