Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: Kurultai Elections to Take Place in August
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, announced that elections to the Kurultai will be held in August.
"Immediately after the Constitution comes into force, I will sign a decree on holding elections to the unicameral Kurultai. The elections will take place in August this year. I am stating this in advance so that the parties can plan accordingly and have the necessary time to properly prepare for the election campaign," the President said.
According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Kurultai elections will mark the beginning of a large-scale "restructuring" of Kazakhstan’s entire political system.
"It is extremely important for the political and economic reforms we are carrying out be closely linked to positive 'mental' changes in society," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted.
As you may recall, CSTO parliamentarians regularly observe elections in Kazakhstan. On March 15, a group of CSTO PA international observers monitored the conduct of the constitutional referendum in Astana and the Akmola Region.
