Russian Central Military District Commander inspected the readiness of Russian military facilities in Tajikistan
Colonel General Aleksandr Lapin, commander of the troops of the Central Military District (CMD), visited the Republic of Tajikistan and inspected the Russian Space Forces’ optronic complex Okno (“Window”) located in the Sanglok mountains. According to the press service of the Central Military District of the Russian Ministry of Defence, during his visit, CMD commander Colonel General Aleksandr Lapin learned about the specificities of the facility and of space-surveillance combat duty. He also visited a military camp located in the town of Nurek.
Aleksandr Lapin congratulated the personnel of the complex on the 41st anniversary of its foundation. “The results of the work showed that the combat duty and the level of professionalism of the personnel meet today’s requirements. On this anniversary day, I wish its personnel, first of all, good health and success in combat duty,” said the CMD troops commander Colonel General Aleksandr Lapin.
The optronic space-object detection complex Okno is located at an altitude of 2.2 thousand meters above sea level in the Sanglok mountains and can detect and classify space objects at altitudes up to 50 thousand kilometres.
As you may recall, on July 24 TASS reported, citing the Russian Defence Ministry, that Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Tajik Defence Minister Sherali Mirzo discussed by telephone the situation in Afghanistan.
“During the talks, the parties discussed the situation in the Tajik-Afghan border area and joint measures to neutralize threats related to the aggravation of the situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,” TASS reported.
