At the press conference following the negotiations with his Belarusian counterpart, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that the matter of establishing a common defence space of the two CSTO Member States was discussed during his talks with Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus.
“A joint regional military grouping, Russian modern defence facilities and tactical nuclear weapons are deployed on the territory of Belarus. All of this ensures that the western borders of the Union State and the CSTO are well-protected,” stated Vladimir Putin.
Today, on March 13, the treaty on mutual security guarantees between Russia and Belarus has come into force. According to the Russian leader, “this document defines the mutual allied obligations to ensure reliable defence and security of Russia and Belarus, using the full available range of forces and assets."
