Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda Zoir, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, received representatives of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization led by Rustam Shohmurod, Chairman of the Coordination Council and Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli Committee on Law, Order, Defence and Security.
Opening the meeting, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda noted that “the activity of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is an example of an effective defence system.”
As part of the military and political monitoring of the situation in the Central Asian region of the CSTO area of responsibility, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda Zoir briefed participants of the meeting on the situation on the border between the Republic of Tajikistan and Afghanistan and in the border areas; parties exchanged views on the progress of the CSTO exercise Vzaimodeistvie 2021. Representatives of the Coordination Council thanked the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan for the invitation to the exercise and preparation of the meeting, noting its high level, and asked questions on developments in the region, in particular concerning the situation of refugees from the border regions of Afghanistan and what measures are needed to normalize the situation.
The meeting participants agreed to exchange materials through parliamentary channels.
The delegation of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the CSTO PA Council includes representatives of the parliaments of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan.
