Maulen Ashimbayev elected Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan
Maulen Ashimbayev has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Senate, his candidacy has been approved unanimously, Tengrinnews reports.
“In accordance with Article 58, paragraph 1 of the Constitution, I propose Maulen Ashimbayev for the post of Chairman of the Senate. In this position, he has already done exceptionally well. He is well acquainted with lawmaking and has extensive experience in public administration. Therefore, I consider him worthy to occupy the post of the Speaker of the Senate,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.
As you may recall, Maulen Ashimbayev first assumed the leadership of the Senate in May 2020. Prior to that, from February 2018 to June 2019, he was the first deputy chairman of the Amanat party.
For reference: Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, signed a decree to hold early parliamentary elections on March 19, 2023. Representatives of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly have been officially invited as international observers of the upcoming event. The invitation letter states that “Kazakhstan will make all necessary efforts to ensure a transparent election in accordance with the national legislation and international standards.”
