On Tuesday Suren Papikyan, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, discussed with Army General Sergey Shoigu, Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, the situation on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Armenian and Russian defence ministers agreed to take the necessary steps to stabilize the border situation.
As you may recall, at midnight on September 13, hostilities broke out on the border with the use of artillery, heavy and small arms fire.
At an emergency meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, “it was decided to formally appeal to the Russian Federation to invoke the provisions of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. There will also be an appeal to the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the UN Security Council in connection with the aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia,” the Government of the Republic of Armenia said in a statement quoted by TASS.
