On August 28, Issyk-Kul is hosting the 5th session of the Coordination Council of authorized bodies of the CSTO Member States on biological security.
Representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and the CSTO Secretariat are taking part in the meeting.
Erkin Checheibaev, Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, noted that the meeting is attended by leading public health physicians, heads of especially dangerous infection control centers and other specialists in the field of security.
"As we know, nowadays security issues concern not only typical areas, but also rapidly developing ones, such as biological security. Such meetings enable us to take coordinated action in dangerous infection control, emergency response, and monitoring and control of the epidemiological situation," Checheibaev emphasized.
As you may recall, a session on the anti-drug policy of the CSTO countries was held the day before. The participating representatives signed a protocol on planning joint actions to prevent and reduce the level of illegal drug trafficking and drug trade in general.
"Such measures within the framework of the CSTO once again confirm that Kyrgyzstan and other participating countries are taking a consolidated position in the field of security and medicine," Erkin Checheibaev pointed out.
CSTO parliamentarians are actively working to ensure the medical and biological security of the Organization's Member States. In particular, in 2023, Recommendations on legislative provision of biological security for CSTO Member States were adopted.
