CSTO Cobalt 2022 exercise launched at Edelweiss training ground in Kyrgyzstan
According to the official website of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the opening ceremony of the CSTO special tactical training exercise Cobalt 2022 took place on August 3, 2022, at the Edelweiss military training ground in Balykchy, Kyrgyzstan, with the participation of the special forces of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force (CRRF).
Valery Semerikov, deputy CSTO Secretary General, made a welcoming address at the event.
Major General Oktyabr Urmambetov, deputy Minister of Interior of the Kyrgyz Republic, noted that the purpose of the exercise is crime prevention in the CSTO Member States and ensuring close cooperation between the CSTO States’ law enforcement agencies.
During the exercise, combined groups of special forces of the Organization’s Member States will perform training and tactical tasks to search, isolate and neutralize militia and terrorist groups; shut down drug smuggling channels; detect and destroy caches and laboratories where drugs are stored and produced.
The exercise plan provides for command and staff training with the Operational Headquarters of the FSSN CRRF of the CSTO Collective Security Treaty Organization in planning a special operation, organizing interaction and management of dissimilar forces and equipment. At the end of the exercise, shooting competitions with various types of weapons will be organized, as well as sports competitions in football and volleyball among the teams participating in the exercise.
The exercise will continue until August 5, 2022.
