Oleg Belokonev: “Consolidation of all CSTO Member States is very important in the current circumstances”
Oleg Belokonev, Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, recalled the necessity of unity between all CSTO Member States in the current world situation.
“Consolidation of all CSTO Member States both at the military and political level is very important in the current conditions. Our Organization has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to respond promptly to challenges to the national security of our states. Today, our unity in views, decisions and actions is a major counterweight to the actions of the NATO bloc,” stressed Oleg Belokonev in his comments to the press service of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Aleksandr Markevich, deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, recalled the priorities of the state presiding over the Organization.
“Security issues are more relevant than ever. We see the situation developing around our states now. This year Belarus holds the presidency over the Collective Security Treaty Organization and we have already begun implementing the priorities we have identified earlier both in lawmaking and in increasing our cohesion. Consolidation of military agencies and parliamentarians of the CSTO Member States is very important at the moment,” Aleksandr Markevich said.
Today, on January 12, Imangali Tasmagambetov, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, who began his term of office on January 1, 2023, visited the CSTO Joint Staff. Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, briefed the head of the Organization on the main areas of development of the collective security system with regard to the CSTO Collective Forces and talked about multilateral military and technical cooperation, the CSTO press service reports. Imangali Tasmagambetov noted that current challenges must be solved together.
As you may recall, joint military exercises of the CSTO Member States are planned to take place in Belarus in autumn 2023.
