Aibek Dadebay Elected Chairman of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The first session of the first convocation of the Kazakhstan's Kurultai took place in Astana. It is the new unicameral supreme legislative body of the Republic, formed after the elections on August 23. 

During the session, Aibek Dadebay, leader of the Adilet party, was elected as Chairman of the Kurultai. He was nominated by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Prior to his election as Speaker, Aibek Dadebay held a number of key government posts: he headed the Executive Office of the President of Kazakhstan from 2024 to 2026, and in May of this year, he took the helm of the newly formed Adilet party. 

Under his leadership, the party achieved strong results in its first election campaign for the reformed legislative body.

The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has closely followed the transformation of Kazakhstan's political system. The CSTO PA international observer mission monitored the nationwide constitutional referendum that approved the transition to a unicameral parliament, and also played an active role in the August 23 Kurultai elections.

According to the Final Report of the observer group, the electoral process took place in strict accordance with national electoral legislation and international democratic standards.
