Sergei Naryshkin: the EAEU and CSTO guarantee stability in the CIS
Integration associations, such as the EAEU and the CSTO, serve as a guarantee of stability and security for the CIS countries, Sergei Naryshkin, Director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, told journalists in Yerevan on Monday, according to TASS.
“Integration protective instruments [such as the EAEU and the CSTO] are a good guarantee for maintaining stability and security. But beyond that, the Russian Federation has enough strength and resources to protect any of its allies, friends and partners in a difficult time,” Sergei Naryshkin said.
“Not only the CIS countries, but the entire humanity is facing challenges, because we are now at a difficult and problematic stage of reformatting the world order into multipolarity,” said the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service.
Mr Naryshkin commented on the visit of William Burns, CIA Director, to Armenia. Mr Burns is known to have arrived in Yerevan on July 15 and met with Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, and Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia. The parties reportedly discussed international and regional security issues.
According to Sergei Naryshkin, his visit to the Armenian capital is “definitely not connected with my American counterpart visit here.”
However, he believes that the opposite is possible: “It cannot be ruled out that his visit is connected with mine.”
