Tokayev Called the Elections a New Milestone in Kazakhstan’s Political Development
On Sunday, Kazakhstan held parliamentary and local elections. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic, called them “a worthy continuation of the large-scale political changes in the country.”
“The previous day, the elections to the Mazhilis and maslikhats were held; they are a significant step in advancing all of our reforms. These elections are a worthy continuation of the large-scale changes. In other words, a new milestone in the country’s political development has begun,” Mr Tokayev said at an event to mark Nowruz festivities.
President Tokayev stressed that serious political steps to renew the governance system had been taken to modernize all spheres of the country’s life.
As you may recall, according to preliminary data of the CEC of Kazakhstan, six out of seven parties taking part in the elections passed to the Mazhilis according to the results of voting by party lists.
A group of international observers from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly worked at the elections. In its Opinion published on the official website paodkb.org, the CSTO PA observers stated that the elections were conducted in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and international norms. No irregularities in the order of issuing ballot papers, placement of visual campaign materials, organization of the voting process itself or during the vote counting were identified.
