Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, dissolved the lower chamber of Kazakhstan’s parliament and set early parliamentary election for March 19, 2023.
“I hope that the new deputies will continue to work in the same format and give a new impetus to the comprehensive modernization of our country,” the President’s statement reads.
The extraordinary procedure is carried out as part of the electoral reforms. Election of maslikhatdeputies of all levels will be set by the Central Election Commission.
“A group of international observers from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is ready to participate in the early parliamentary election in Kazakhstan. We expect an invitation to participate in the observation mission,” Sergei Pospelov, CSTO PA Executive Secretary, commented.
As you may recall, members of the group of international observers from the CSTO PA monitored the early presidential election in Kazakhstan on November 20, 2022. The final report on the Assembly’s website states that the election complied with the country’s legislation and international standards.
