As of 5 PM (Dushanbe time), the election to the Assembly of Representatives of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan was declared valid. Voting turnout exceeded 75%, TASS reports the information of Central Election and Referendum Committee (CERC) of the Republic of Tajikistan.
A team of observers of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States has been monitoring the voting process since the polling stations opened.
Ulugbek Inoyatov, a coordinator of the group of international observers from the IPA CIS and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Dmitry Kobitsky, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, observed the start of work at polling station No 4 in the Dushanbe Plaza shopping centre in the capital of the Republic.
During the day the international observers representing the parliaments of eight IPA CIS Member States – the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan, including the Collective Security Treaty Organization Member States – and representatives of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat were visiting the polling stations in Dushanbe, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan, the city of Hissar, in Vahdat and Tursunzoda districts and in Khatlon region.
Foreign polling stations are also monitored, in particular in Minsk (Republic of Belarus), Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic) and St Petersburg (Russian Federation).
On Sunday, Tajikistan holds elections to the Lower House of the Parliament. Polling stations across the country opened at 6 AM (4 AM Moscow time). A total of 63 deputies will be elected, 41 from single-seat constituencies and 22 from the nationwide constituency.
