The National Flag Day of the Kyrgyz Republic is celebrated annually on March 3.
This year it is celebrated with a banner that has an updated design, adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on December 20, 2023.
The initiative to change the flag was made by Nurlanbek Shakiev, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh, and Ulan Primov, a deputy, in October 2023.
The national flag of Kyrgyzstan represents a red cloth with a round solar disk with forty evenly diverging golden rays in the center. The golden sun represents peace and wealth, and the tunduk is a symbol of the fatherland. It symbolizes the unity of the peoples living in the country. Forty rays, which are united in a circle, mean the unification of 40 ancient tribes into a single Kyrgyzstan.
The first flag of independent Kyrgyzstan was raised on March 5, 1992 over the Government House in Bishkek.
