On December 13, Minsk hosted a meeting of the Coordination Council of the Heads of Competent Authorities of the CSTO Member States on Combating Illegal Migration, the CSTO website report.
It was attended by delegations from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the CSTO Secretariat.
The meeting summed up the results of the CSTO regional operation Nelegal 2023 to combat illegal migration, discussed the migration situation in the CSTO Member States.
Yury Nazarenko, first deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Belarus, Head of the Public Security Police noted that the changing geopolitical and economic realities are rapidly transforming migration processes, creating certain challenges and threats for each state. In this regard, in his opinion, one should not forget about the benefits that orderly and regulated migration can bring.
“That is why the elaboration of a single coordinated strategy is an integral component of common success,” Yury Nazarenko emphasised.
In addition, the parties discussed various aspects of improving the Coordination Council’s activities. Particular attention was paid to the formation of common information resources, improving the quality and efficiency of interaction in the detection and suppression of illegal migration channels.
A number of documents were signed as a result of the meeting.
As you may recall, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has developed and adopted Recommendations on the Issue of Refugees and Asylum Seekers, Recommendations on the Creation of a Positive Image of Migrant Workers in CSTO Member States, Recommendations on Improvement of the National Legislation of the CSTO Member States Regarding Pension Benefits of Migrant Workers and others.
