Coordination Meeting of Chairs of Committees on Defense of the CSTO Parliaments Opens in Minsk
MINSK, October 15. The Coordination Meeting of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the CSTO PA Council opened today in the capital of Belarus.
The meeting is focused on pressing collective security issues and assessing the current military and political situation in the CSTO area of responsibility and neighboring regions. Lawmakers are also discussing joint measures to counter modern challenges and threats that call for member states' coordinated response.
Per tradition, the key item on the agenda is improving and harmonizing national legislation in the CSTO member states. The parliamentarians discuss legal framework for building up the Organization's military component, strengthening of defense capabilities and military-technical cooperation.
Particular attention is paid to drafting model legislation and recommendations that would help align member states' legal frameworks, allowing the collective security system's forces and assets to operate more effectively.
The meeting proves the importance of interparliamentary dialogue in strengthening ties among the allies.
