September 17 is People's Unity Day in the Republic of Belarus. It was established on June 7, 2021.
Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus, congratulated his compatriots on the holiday.
The head of state stressed that this day is a symbol of the restoration of historical justice and national unity, which served as the basis for the development and strengthening of Belarusian statehood.
"On September 17, 1939, the people of our country, who had been divided against their will, regained their integrity and freedom, which allowed Belarusians to become full-fledged owners of their land," said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The president added that it's the unity that helped Belarus keep its identity and ancestral spiritual values, as well as defend its right to a peaceful life during the Great Patriotic War.
