Today is the Day of National Mourning for Victims of Coronavirus in the Republic of Kazakhstan
The Republic of Kazakhstan mourns coronavirus victims today. The Day of National Mourning has been declared in the country.
According to Kazinform news agency, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev honoured the memory of those died in the pandemic.
A minute of silence was declared in the country at noon, Nur-Sultan time.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan appealed to the nation, saying that “the Government and akims are taking urgent measures to overcome the difficult situation.
I am grateful to healthcare professionals, policemen and volunteers for their selfless work. Today we honour the memory of our compatriots whose lives have been cut short by the insidious disease. I extend my condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased.”
Mr Tokayev expressed confidence that unity and cohesion will help overcome this ordeal sooner.
The mourning ceremony to honour the pandemic victims was held in all regions of the republic and was broadcast on national TV. State flags were at half-staff across the country, and TV and radio did not broadcast entertainment shows.
As of July 13, 375 people died from COVID-19 in Kazakhstan.
