Valery Semerikov: at the Collective Security Council meeting, heads of CSTO States will consider a plan to equip the Collective Forces with the latest weapons
The Collective Security Treaty Organization Collective Rapid Deployment Force (CSTO CRDF) equipment plan will be submitted for consideration to the heads of CSTO States at the Dushanbe meeting on September 16, TASS reports, quoting deputy CSTO Secretary General Valery Semerikov in Minsk.
“It is very important for us to focus on implementing the plan to provide the Collective Rapid Deployment Force with the modern types of weapons and equipment,” TASS quotes the deputy CSTO secretary general. “Such a plan has already been agreed upon and approved by the ministers of defence and Security Councils’ secretaries. On the 16th [September – TASS] it will be presented to the heads of states for approval,” Valery Semerikov noted.
The Organization’s deputy Secretary General recalled that during the extraordinary session of the Collective Security Council on August 23, the heads of states “had a detailed discussion and ordered to prepare proposals to neutralize the threat emanating from the territory of Afghanistan.” “Including to be proactive about the possible influx of refugees from Afghanistan,” Mr Semerikov specified.
“All these issues are reflected in the list of measures and activities that we will also present to ministers of defence, foreign ministers and Security Councils’ secretaries on September 15–16, and, accordingly, after their consideration, submit them to the heads of states,” deputy CSTO Secretary General said.
In turn, Russian deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov expressed hope that at the Dushanbe meeting the heads of CSTO States will sign an agreement to provide the Collective Forces with modern weapons and equipment. “We have achieved significant progress in terms of equipping the Collective Security Forces of the CSTO States, and I hope it will be signed during the meeting of the heads of states on September 16,” said Yuri Borisov, commenting on the results of the 19th session of the Interstate Commission for Military-Economic Cooperation of the CSTO Member States that took place in Minsk on Thursday.
