Vasily Piskarev: Security Is a Top Priority for All CSTO Member States Today

Vasily Piskarev, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Security and Corruption Control, took part in the visiting session of Coordination Meeting of Chairpersons of Committees on Defense and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the CSTO PA Council in Minsk.

The main item on the agenda was the assessment of the current military and political situation in the CSTO's area of responsibility, as well as the harmonization of member states' national legislation to counter modern challenges.

Summing up the meeting, Vasily Piskarev stressed the importance of consolidating the member states' efforts.

"Amid rapid geopolitical change and the emergence of hybrid threats, our key task is to ensure a reliable, modern legal shield for CSTO member states. Timely harmonization of security legislation, joint action against extremism and protection of information sovereignty will allow us to respond as quickly and effectively as possible to any attempts to destabilize our countries," he said.

The Chairman added that security is a top priority for all the CSTO member states today.

After the meeting, participants outlined next steps to develop the CSTO's model legislation and strengthen interparliamentary cooperation on defense.
