On April 29, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, gave a speech at the plenary session of the International Forum "Great Heritage – Common Future" in Volgograd, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Vladimir Putin announced the adoption of more than 10 federal laws related to history. In particular, new days of military glory were established, including the date in honor of the Crimean offensive in 1944 and a new memorable date, August 9 – Final Day of the Battle of Leningrad.
The Russian leader stated that a stricter procedure is to be adopted for the repair and protection of cultural heritage sites, and thanked the deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia for the initiative to use a part of the Union State budget for the construction of memorial complexes dedicated to the battles on the Kursk Salient and at the Buynichi village.
In his speech, Vladimir Putin emphasized the importance of social, cultural and educational initiatives such as the Immortal Regiment, and expressed his deep gratitude to war veterans and the generation of Victors.
He stressed that Russia and Belarus will always remember the lessons of the war and do everything to counter the revival of Nazism, the spreading of ideologies of Russophobia, anti-Semitism and any form of racism and national or religious intolerance.
The President of the Russian Federation urged the international community to jointly build a new architecture of equal and indivisible security to protect the interests of all states.
"Many participants of this Forum are actively cooperating with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. We are grateful to all those who contribute to the legal support of productive partnership, to the harmonization of national legislation and the development of model legal acts, including those related to preserving historical memory. In particular, the Parliamentary Assembly has adopted Model Laws and Recommendations on issues related to responsibility for the attempts to revise and distort the historical events and outcomes of the Great Patriotic War. And in December 2024, the Assembly adopted an Address to the parliaments of all countries of the world in honor of the upcoming Anniversary of the Victory," the President pointed out.
At the end of his speech, Vladimir Putin thanked his colleagues for the efforts in strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
As you may recall, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia is a partner of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
