Vladimir Putin and Sadyr Japarov discussed the development of cooperation within the CSTO
In Sochi, Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, met with Sadyr Japarov, President of the Kyrgyz Republic. The two leaders discussed the development of bilateral interaction, including within the integration associations, and exchanged views on current regional issues, including improving stability on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, according to kremlin.ru website.
As the Russian President noted in his speech, next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the fundamental agreement on friendship and cooperation. “But we already can say that our interstate relations have been successfully improving and developing over these years. Suffice it to say that Russia is Kyrgyzstan’s biggest trade partner. Unfortunately, last year, mutual trade declined due to the pandemic. But in the first quarter of 2021 we are witnessing a six per cent increase, which is a positive trend and we need to maintain it, also by using the intergovernmental commission,” Vladimir Putin said.
The President of the Russian Federation especially emphasized cooperation in fight against COVID-19 pandemic. “Russia has been assisting and will continue to assist Kyrgyzstan by sending test systems, antiviral drugs and vaccines. Our experts are currently considering launching production in Kyrgyzstan to manufacture our Sputnik V vaccine, which is now world famous,” noted Vladimir Putin.
The President of the Russian Federation noted active cooperation within international organizations, “particularly, the EAEU […], the CSTO, and some other organizations, including global ones like the United Nations.”
Vladimir Putin particularly stressed: “We have been watching the situation on the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border closely and with great concern. As you know, quite recently we had a visit from the President of Tajikistan. Of course, we discussed this issue with him as well. We took a positive view of the intention of the two sides to resolve all disputes of this kind through negotiations. I am sure that this goal can be achieved this way.
We will do everything in our power to help you resolve these issues. We understand that this has to do with the lives of specific people, primarily both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan - they [states] think about people. We have to find a way to resolve any issues which would be long-term and meet the interests of both sides,” the President of the Russian Federation said.
In turn, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic thanked Vladimir Putin for his “attention and compassion over the events on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border,” stressing that “Russia is our main ally and trade and economic partner.”
