Delegation of the State Duma of the Russian Federation headed by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, Chairman of the CSTO PA, paid tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad on Mamayev Kurgan.
The participants of the ceremony laid a wreath and flowers at the Eternal Flame, paying great respect to the heroic deeds of soldiers and officers of the Red Army.
Foreign parliamentary delegations from the CSTO and CIS countries, as well as the friendly states of Asia, Europe and Latin America, visiting Volgograd for the International Patriotic Forum, also took part in the ceremony.
Laying flowers on his grave, Vyacheslav Volodin paid special attention to the memory of Marshal Vasily Chuikov, twice named Hero of the Soviet Union. By his own will, Chuikov was buried on Mamayev Kurgan, next to the soldiers who fell in the Battle of Stalingrad.
In the mass grave on Mamayev Kurgan lie the remains of more than 34 thousand defenders of Stalingrad. 37 granite plates with the names of the Heroes of the Soviet Union who took part in the legendary Battle are placed along the path to the monument The Motherland Calls.
