Vyacheslav VOLODIN invited PACE speaker to protect the historical memory of Soviet soldiers.

Today Vyacheslav VOLODIN, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, met with Liliane Maury Pasquier, Speaker of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in Moscow.
According to the Duma TV channel, Mr VOLODIN thanked the PACE Speaker for the constructive stand and support of the Russian delegation during its return to the Council of Europe and proposed to continue discussing the issue of the protection of the historical memory of the Soviet soldiers who died in Europe, which was raised earlier at the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament in Strasbourg on October 24.
"We are talking about the historical memory of our soldiers and officers who died in European countries protecting the world from the brown plague. We must do everything to ensure that their memory lives on and that they are not trampled, both literally and figuratively. Given the fact that we face acts of vandalism when monuments and graves are destroyed, this is unacceptable. Our stance on this matter will be consistent and uncompromising,” Vyacheslav VOLODIN stressed.
The Chairman of the State Duma noted that Russia appreciates the support of not only individual representatives of PACE, but also all CE countries.
Liliane Maury PASQUIER supported Vyacheslav VOLODIN’S proposal and highlighted the importance of preserving history in all Council of Europe Member States. She agreed that it was important not to let the historical facts be reinterpreted.
The Standing Committee on Political Affairs and International Cooperation of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is preparing a draft Appeal to the Council of Europe Member States on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Second World War, calling for joint efforts at the legislative level to counteract Nazism, its rehabilitation and revival.​
