On December 16, the Republic of Kazakhstan celebrates a public holiday: Independence Day.
The Law on Independence and State Sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan was adopted on December 16, 1991.
This year Kazakhstan will celebrate the 32nd anniversary of its independence.
President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kazakhstanis on the holiday.
“Independence opened new horizons for our country. It was after the declaration of independence that the process of diplomatic recognition of Kazakhstan began, turning it into a fully-fledged subject of international law,” Mr Tokayev said.
On Kazakhstan’s Independence Day, patriotic events and street festivities take place in many communities. National sports competitions are organized.
