April 2 is the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia
April 2 is the Day of Unity of two CSTO Member States: the Republic of Belarus and Russia. The holiday is dedicated to political, economic and cultural cooperation of the brotherly peoples.
As you may recall, the Treaty on the Establishment of the Community of Russia and Belarus was signed on April 2, 1996. Since then, this date has been celebrated at the state level both in the Republic of Belarus and in Russia.
Two years later, Moscow and Minsk signed several more important documents: the Declaration on Further Unification of Belarus and Russia, the Agreement on Ensuring Equal Rights of Citizens, the Agreement on Creation of Equal Conditions for Economic Agents and the Protocol to it.
And in 1999, the Union State was established.
On this day both countries hold celebratory events.
For reference. The Collective Security Treaty Organization was established on May 15, 1992. The Republic of Belarus joined the CSTO on December 31, 1993.
