On 21 March, member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization celebrate the ancient holiday of Nowruz, symbolizing the coming of spring and the beginning of a new year. At the official level, Nowruz is celebrated in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The celebration of Nauryz in Kazakhstan since 2024 at the suggestion of the head of state is held in a new format - the events are held from March 14 to 23, and this period is called Nauryznama.
“If Nauryz is an international holiday, which is celebrated in Central Asia, the Middle East, the Caucasus, the Balkans, then Nauryznama is a native folk holiday of the Great Steppe, which lasted at least 8 days”, - noted in the Ministry of Culture of the RK.
Today in Bishkek will be held large-scale events dedicated to the celebration of Nooruz.The festivities began with a theatrical prologue “Kel, kuttuu Nooruzum”, symbolizing the coming of spring.
Festivities began in Tajikistan as well.
“We should be proud of Navruz of our ancestors, which is declared an International Holiday, cherish it and honor it. Every patriotic and honest person should contribute to the preservation of these traditions and rituals and the worthy conduct of ancient folk festivals,” Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon said in his address to the nation.
Nowruz is also celebrated in Russian regions - Adygeya, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia and others.
Nowruz is included by UNESCO in the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
