June 30 is International Day of Parliamentarism, established by the UN General Assembly in 2018 and celebrated worldwide.
This date was chosen to commemorate the founding on June 30, 1889 of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the oldest international organization uniting parliamentarians to strengthen democracy, dialog and cooperation.
Today, the Inter-Parliamentary Union comprises the parliaments of 178 states and 14 international parliamentary organizations.
International Day of Parliamentarism is not only an occasion to celebrate the achievements of legislative bodies, but also a reminder to constantly develop them and adapt to new challenges.
For reference. CSTO Parliamentary Assembly actively participates in international parliamentary processes and has had the observer status in the Inter-Parliamentary Union since 2007.
