June 30 Is International Day of Parliamentarism

On June 30, the international community celebrates Parliamentary Day, a date designed to highlight the crucial role of higher legislative bodies in ensuring stability, development, and democratic dialogue. The holiday was officially established in 2018 by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.

The date of June 30 was chosen for a reason: it was on this day in 1889 that the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) was founded, the first-ever international organization that brought together parliamentarians from around the world. Parliamentary dialogue contributes to building trust between countries, resolving disputes peacefully, and finding joint solutions to global challenges.

For the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the parliamentary dimension is an integral part of strengthening allied relations. The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly makes a significant contribution to the development of parliamentarism in the Eurasian region.
