Alen Simonyan: development of parliamentary dimension is one of the main priorities of Armenia's chairmanship in CSTO
.
Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, speaking at the meeting of the Council and the 14th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, called the strengthening of the foreign policy coordination and the mutual support of the CSTO Member States one of the main priorities of the Republic of Armenia during its presidency in the Organization.
Coordination is needed “to work out concerted approaches on international and regional issues relating to the Organization’s Member States’ interests,” said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
In addition, Alen Simonyan stressed that the CSTO PA should expand its practice of adopting joint statements and intensify its analytical work. “It is necessary to update the crisis response mechanisms. And in this context, mechanisms for monitoring, forecasting and preventing crisis situations are needed,” said Alen Simonyan.
According to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, the issues of enhancing “the military cooperation between the CSTO Member States with a view to improving the combat readiness and cohesion and mobility of the CSTO Forces” will receive close attention.
Speaking about the development of the CSTO parliamentary component, Alen Simonyan noted that the Republic of Armenia values it greatly.
Alen Simonyan stressed the necessity to develop activities aimed at “approximating and harmonizing CSTO Member States’ national legislation in the area of national security taking into consideration new challenges and threats, including in the digital, economic, financial, biological, environmental and humanitarian spheres.” He also stated the need “to undertake steps aimed at further institutionalizing the CSTO parliamentary dimension” and expressed confidence that “our joint efforts in filling the existing agreements with specific content will increase the CSTO PA’s actual contribution to strengthening and expanding multilateral cooperation between our states within the Organization.”
