Andrei Savinykh: We all urgently need continuous development and strengthening of the CSTO
“Amid the destruction of global stability and the increasing number of local conflicts, the defence initiatives of Belarus and Russia, being a stabilizing factor in the entire CIS region, become especially important,” said Andrei Savinykh, deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, member of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Belarus, at the 62nd session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State.
“Let me draw your attention to another aspect: the events in the early 2022 in one of the CSTO States demonstrated the potential of this defence alliance, including in preventing the threat of overthrowing the constitutional order provoked by external forces,” BelTA quotes Andrei Savinykh.
“Today continuous development and strengthening of the CSTO as a full-fledged defence bloc capable of coping with any type of threats of any intensity and any orientation is extremely necessary,” said Andrei Savinykh.
“The CSTO is an important complement to allied defence initiatives, as well as a defence bloc that should also be open to other states in the region that value peace and stability and do not accept the aggressive aims of the countries of the collective West to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states.”
