Aigul Kuspan, a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has been unanimously elected Chair of the Permanent Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA).
The decision was made during a regular meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on March 27. All Member States' representatives supported the Kazakhstani parliamentarian’s candidacy.
As you may recall, in the Mazhilis Aigul Kuspan heads the specialized Committee on International Affairs, Defence and Security. Before joining the parliament, she built a successful career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, serving for many years in senior positions and representing Kazakhstan’s interests as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to several countries.
The Permanent Commission of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, headed now by Aigul Kuspan, plays a key role in coordinating foreign policy activities of the parliaments of the Organization’s Member States. The commission is responsible for strengthening regional and global security, developing interparliamentary dialogue with other international organizations and formulating coordinated approaches to current geopolitical challenges.
