Oleg Belokonev: CSTO peacekeepers have undergone all training stages
“After Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, made an appeal to send a CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Force to the Republic of Kazakhstan, the President of the Republic of Belarus made a decision almost immediately; and under the preliminary agreement, according to the documents that exist today, our peacekeeping contingent left to perform the tasks assigned to it.” This is how Oleg Belokonev, member of the CSTO PA Standing Commission, member of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the CSTO PA and Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, commented on the decision to send a CSTO peacekeeping force to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“The contingent is rather well-prepared to carry out peacekeeping activities,” stressed Oleg Belokonev.
He recalled that Belarusian peacekeeping contingent had participated in all the exercises organized by the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces, “it also underwent special training with the instructors of the UN peacekeeping forces. I am convinced that the decision to send the CSTO peacekeeping contingent to the Republic of Kazakhstan was the right one,” stressed Oleg Belokonev.
“The CSTO peacekeeping contingent, which will perform tasks in such a composition for the first time, will be successful. I believe that order will soon be restored in Kazakhstan and that there will be no change to the constitutional order, no loss of sovereignty, territorial integrity, etc. I am confident that the decision was correct, and that we will once again be able to check the progress of our joint combat tasks of troops relocation, troop support and carrying out peacekeeping activities,” believes Mr Belokonev.
