Rustam Shokhmurod: CSTO peacekeepers’ first mission will show the effectiveness of such work within the Organization
Today, on January 7, 2022, the joint session of the Majlisi Milli and Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan decided to send a peacekeeping contingent to Kazakhstan, reports Rustam Shokhmurod, Chairman of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the Committee on Law, Order, Defence and Security of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to him, the decision was based on Article 55 of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan; appeal of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to the Parliament to send peacekeepers; and the Republic of Tajikistan’ commitments under CSTO Agreement on Peacekeeping.
Guided by these documents, the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan deliberated and agreed to send peacekeepers, said Rustam Shokhmurod.
“This is the first time a CSTO contingent is used; it will show how reasonable its deployment is. We hope the peacekeeping contingent will act respecting the agreement and the laws of the host country,” said Rustam Shokhmurod.
