The International Conference on Eurasian Security is being held in Minsk for the third time.
Delegations from over 40 countries and seven international organizations, including the CSTO and the SCO, are participating. As part of the conference, the CSTO Secretariat is holding a working session entitled "Prospects for Collective Security in Eurasia: The CSTO's Area of Responsibility as a Space for Dialogue." Speaking at the session, CSTO Deputy Secretary-General and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Peacekeeping, Taalatbek Masadykov, noted that "large-scale conflicts, fraught with further escalation, have come very close to the borders of the CSTO's area of responsibility."
"The situation in Afghanistan remains serious, meaning challenges and threats from this territory have not been completely eliminated. Instability persists in the Middle East and the Near East. A solution to the conflict in Eastern Europe has not been found," stated Taalatbek Masadykov.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Igor Sekreta emphasized that "the CSTO is an integral element of Eurasian security."
"The CSTO is an integral element of Eurasian security and an important factor in the security of its member countries. In the 32 years since the signing of the Collective Security Treaty, we have come a long way from the creation of a military-political union to its transformation into a modern multifunctional organization," Sekreta noted.
Vyacheslav Kocharyan, Advisor to the Secretariat of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, is also participating in the conference. Participants will discuss prospects for the formation of a Eurasian security system, the activities of Eurasian think tanks and think tanks, regional security initiatives, and the updating of approaches to integration issues in the Eurasian space.
