Delegation of CSTO PA Secretariat Laid Flowers at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial
On May 8, on the eve of the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War, members of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Secretariat took part in a solemn ceremony at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery.
This is one of the most important commemorative events in St. Petersburg dedicated to the memory of the Great Victory. Per tradition, veterans, officials, military personnel, and representatives of public organizations lay flowers at the Motherland monument.
As a token of deep respect and in loving memory, the Secretariat delegation solemnly laid a wreath at the Motherland monument on behalf of the CSTO PA. The delegates also laid red carnations at the mass graves where hundreds of thousands of civilians and defenders of Leningrad are laid to rest, who fell during the Great Patriotic War.
"For us, coming here on this day is a great honor and a sacred duty. The Piskaryovskoye Memorial is not just a great monument; it is an unhealed wound and an everlasting reminder of the unprecedented courage, fortitude and self-sacrifice of our people. Today, as we face attempts to distort the past, it is our shared duty to stand shoulder to shoulder in defending the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War. We must carefully preserve the memory of the price of this Victory and pass it on to future generations of the CSTO Member States," said Vladimir Bondurovsky, deputy Head of the Secretariat of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Taking part in commemorative events on Victory Day is a core, long-standing tradition of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, symbolizing the Member States’ unity in preserving the memory of their joint feat in the fight against fascism.
