CSTO PA’s Work Amidst Global Challenges Discussed in Kaliningrad
On May 14–16, the Kaliningrad region is hosting a meeting of the Standing Committee on International Cooperation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Northwestern Regions of Russia.
During the meeting, Sergei Pospelov, CSTO PA Executive Secretary, reported on the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly’s efforts to protect the equality and sovereignty of the Organization’s Member States in the context of the transforming global challenges and threats.
In his speech, Sergei Pospelov noted the CSTO’s growing role in today's deteriorating system of international relations.
"The CSTO today is referred to as the 'security umbrella' of Eurasian integration processes. At the same time, the intensity of hybrid threats against the Treaty’s Member States has only increased in recent years, which obliges our international union to be on high alert," the Executive Secretary emphasized. "Alas, such are the geopolitical realities of the modern world. Political interests of a group of states include aggressive goals and are an undisguised source of the strategy of force, and thus a direct assault on the sovereign equality of states."
Sergei Pospelov paid special attention to the key areas of the Parliamentary Assembly’s legal and monitoring work: peacekeeping activities, countering terrorism, protecting historical truth, electoral sovereignty and biological and digital security.
The Executive Secretary of the CSTO PA also pointed out that in 2026 the Assembly will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
